2001: Putrajaya

Originally known as Prang Besar, Putrajaya was elevated to become Malaysia’s federal administrative centre in 1999. Named after the first Malaysian Prime Minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra, it became the country’s third Federal Territory in 2001 and was considered to be one of the largest projects in Southeast Asia during that time. Taken from the Malay words “Putra” (prince) and “jaya” (success), Putrajaya is home to some of the country’s most unique structures such as the Iron Mosque (Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque) and the nine individually-designed bridges which form the objects of study for this photographer.
