Nik Azwaa started to take photography seriously when friends kept saying he had a knack for good pictures.
Nik Azwaa is an audio engineering graduate who somehow ended up doing graphic design for a living. He started to take photography seriously when friends kept saying he had a knack for good pictures. Being a musician (Nik is the guitarist for Lab The Rat), it was almost natural that his forte is music photography. He has photographed international artists such as jazz legends Bob James, Margie Segers and Kirk Lightsey and his achievements on the local front include the photography for Sheila Majid’s Live at Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra album, Mizz Nina’s debut album and indie band Pesawat’s album.
2008: Melaka
Popularly known as the Historic State or Negeri Bersejarah, Melaka is rich in cultural heritage and bears several places of historical interest due to its former European colonial masters. Although it was the location of one of the earliest Malay sultanates, the monarchy fell when the Portuguese conquered the territory in 1511. In 1641, the Dutch defeated the Portuguese and ruled the city until it was ceded to the British in the Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824. Today, Melaka forms part of Malaysia’s 14 states and federal territories, though the head of state is a Governor rather than a Sultan. On 7 July 2008, the historical city centre was included in UNESCO’s World Heritage List of 936 properties around the world deemed to have outstanding universal value.
