Growing up with dyslexia and ADHD, Faris Hassani aka Abetam coped with his disabilities by capturing the world through an old, beaten up SLR camera.
Faris Hassani aka Abetam has always seen the world differently. Growing up with dyslexia and ADHD, he found the best way to cope with his disabilities: capturing his own definition of the world through an old, beaten up SLR camera. Though he may have grown out of his disabilities, his passion for photography is still evident today. A travel photographer, he enjoys taking photographs of people, landscapes and even buildings that he sees when he travels. He firmly believes that with a unique perspective, anyone can capture the life behind everything they see or encounter through the camera. Hassani’s latest muse and current love is his children.
1997: Petronas Twin Towers
The 88-floor Twin Towers were ranked as the tallest buildings in the world on 1 January 1997. Although they were surpassed in 2004 by Taipei 101, they still remain the tallest twin towers ever built. Designed by renowned Argentinian Architect César Pelli and Filipino-Malaysian engineer Deejay Cerico, the towers’ construction holds the record for the single largest and longest concrete pour in Malaysian history. 13,200 cubic metres of concrete were poured continuously through 54 hours for each tower. The resulting record-breaking slab with 104 piles forms their foundation. Their design was inspired by the many cultures and traditions of Malaysia, while the skybridge connecting them has been aptly described by Pelli as representing the country’s aspirations and the “gateway to the future”.
